PROBLEM: If personA and personB are chatting on iMessage (Apple's chat app), and personB's screen says "personA has notifications silenced" but personA doesn't know how to fix it, here's how! UNDERSTANDING WHY THIS HAPPENS: personA's phone has two kinds of settings: 1) Do Not Disturb settings, 2) sharing settings. In order for other devices to detect personA's DND status, sharing must be enabled on personA's phone. If personA has DND enabled, then disables sharing, and then disables DND, nobody's device will ever be informed that DND has been disabled since sharing was disabled before they disabled DND, so those devices will assume DVD is still enabled. HOW TO FIX IT: In short: Enable sharing, enable DND, disable DND, text the affected people to inform their phones, disable sharing. Settings > Focus > Share Across Devices > ON (this allows your phone to communicate its DND status to your other phones) Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Focus Status > Share Focus Status > ON (this allows your phone to communicate its DND status to other people's phones) Settings > Privacy > Focus > Messages > ON (this allows the Messages app, specifically, to detect and share your DND status) Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > ON Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > OFF (this should communicate to the other devices that your DND is turned off) restart your phone send the affected person an iMessage ("testing" will work) so their phone will receive the status update from your phone that you have DND disabled. Once you've sent messages to everybody whose phone was stuck thinking you had DND enabled, they should all be fixed now and show that your DND is disabled. Now, you can turn this all off again if you want. Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > OFF Settings > Privacy > Focus > Messages > OFF Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Focus Status > Share Focus Status > OFF Settings > Focus > Share Across Devices > OFF
