How to check your external IP from the command prompt

You can check your external public IP from the Windows command prompt using a free service from OpenDNS. Just type this command:


The results should come back instantly. The first paragraph of the response tells you the address of the DNS server, so you can ignore that. The second paragraph titled Non-authoritative answer gives you the query you submitted in the Name field and tells you your external IP address in the Address field.
