How to check your external IP from the command prompt

You can check your external public IP from the Windows command prompt using a free service from OpenDNS. Just type this command: nslookup myip.opendns.com. resolver1.opendns.com The results should come back instantly. The first paragraph of the response tells you the address of the DNS server, so you can ignore that. The second paragraph titled Non-authoritative answer gives you the query you submitted in the Name field and tells you your external IP address in the Address field.
